Oceans of Emotions

Modified and Reposted from 2013

“Something of God….flows into us from the blue of the sky, the taste of honey, the delicious embrace of water whether cold or hot, and even from sleep itself.” – C.S. Lewis

Whistling, dancing, clapping like one trillion overjoyed church fans, the ocean’s waves spool in with the wind and twirl out with amnesty and accord. North, South, East, West—they motion to the moon, sanction the sun, and sway in their emotional tango. In this majestic sound of unity, the ocean’s flux and the blue hue of the sky join forces, commanding us to witness their offerings. Each day, blue and new, sky and sea consecrate our steps with gratitude and dependability.

Blue—the hue of ocean, sky, sleep, twilight—is a calming spirit, a healer in abundance. It invites us to exhale, reboot, and create. Psychologically, we associate blue to the night, to rest, to the peace that settles us into the material world. Just as the blue waters stimulate insight, mindfulness, and spirituality, the blue skies enhance our feelings of security and allow us to trust with good judgment. Mellow like the yellow Sun, the stability of blue grants a calm abiding and supports our control of our mental thoughts.

Physiologically, deep blue feeds the pituitary gland, which regulates sleep patterns and helps to reduce insomniac nights. In career and calling, blue is both grounded and aspirational, clear in truth, steady in vision; it’s very tone fuels hunger for knowledge and mastery, hence, the recommended attire for employment and traditional requirement for police officers, pilots, and leaders. Worn against the skin, blue tempers the blood, slowing the pulse, where red might race it.

Spiritually, blue demonstrably aligns with the throat chakra, the Fifth, the seat of voice, thyroid gland, accountability, and expression. Here, truth is currency, and dishonesty corrodes both body and spirit. The Fifth Chakra is, ultimately, our connection to the world. The healthfulness of this chakra directly relates to how we express ourselves, whether through creativity or negativity.

Lying, through the tongue, violates both the body and spirit because all of the choices we make have consequences on an energetic level. The common expression “lump in the throat” is the body’s warning when words go unsaid and when choices stall in silence. Physical ailments like laryngitis, sore throat, mouth ulcers, gum issues, voice problems, and swollen glands can mark where expression has been choked off. Emotionally, when we swallow anger, fear, criticism, even faith, we’ve given our power away. The critical challenge of the throat chakra is to assimilate information and express ourselves in the most truthful manner.

A sacred space of authority, the ocean is an influence we grow to respect. Its lessons come like waves: powerful, relentless, sometimes devastating, but always instructive. At the oceans front, when we meet the tide with a calm mind, we recognize that we are the student, and the ocean is the teacher. The devotion of the deep blue ocean and the sincerity of the sapphire sky bestow us a heightened sense of balance.

Balance, for most of us, comes in waves. Most days, we are more in flux, tide than still water—pulled, swayed, unsettled by the smallest storms. Rarely do we remain still like the sea. But when we surrender and make our emotional security a priority, balanced is restored and personal power, achieved. Blue energy restores that center, and opens the door to growth, wisdom, resourcefulness, and self-control. It allows us to look beyond ourselves and increase our perspectives outward.

As you move forward, the challenge for equilibrium will rock your boat in the same way it always has. Flux will always rise. But peace will always exist if we let it. When steadiness feels lost to deep, bewildering waters, perhaps it’s not disappearance at all, just the surfacing of old waves asking to be stilled. You must find the quiet ceiling of the sky. The motion of the ocean need not set you adrift.
