Abandonment’s Echo

The fight quietly ends in every healing journey. Not because every battle has been won. Not because every wound has disappeared. But because something inside of you no longer believes it has to prove its worth through exhaustion.

For so long, survival demanded movement. Explaining yourself. Overextending. Fixing. Carrying. Rescuing. Protesting the way you were treated by lovers, family, friends, employers, and people who should have known better. Somewhere along the way, exhaustion became a badge of honor—as if constantly carrying the weight of the world somehow validated your existence.

Healing has a way of interrupting that illusion. Something is being put to rest.

It’s not your purpose. It’s not your passion. It’s your struggle.

When struggle is no longer your identity, rest no longer feels like surrender; it feels like coming home. Now, you can begin to rest. Sacred rest is not laziness. It is trust. It is the quiet confidence that your worth remains intact even when you are no longer performing for it. Rest becomes holy the moment you stop believing you have to earn your right to exist. It creates something many of us have avoided for years: enough silence to finally hear what our shadow has been trying to say.

The shadow is where we often hide: in abandonment, shame, jealousy, grief, fear, anger, rejection, loneliness. Those emotions weren’t bad; they were just never welcomed. Shadow work is less about becoming fascinated with your darkness, and more about becoming curious about it. Long before many of us had language for it, Carl Jung reminded us that wholeness isn’t achieved by eliminating the shadow, but by understanding it.

Healing doesn’t happen when we destroy the shadow. Healing happens when we introduce it to the light. Because we are not made of one color, we are made of an entire spectrum. Joy. Grief. Compassion. Courage. Fear. Wonder. Creativity. Anger. Tenderness. Discernment. Playfulness. Every one of these colors belongs somewhere on the canvas of who we are. Healing doesn’t just choose the beautiful colors; it also understands how every shade contributed to the masterpiece. When we begin to honor every part of ourselves, something remarkable happens—the child in us slowly begins to feel safe enough to come outside again.

When was the last time you laughed…

without guilt?

Rested…

without apologizing?

Dreamed…

without explaining yourself?

That’s inner child work.

Maybe that was what my inner child had been asking for all along—not another explanation, but a place to rest. Meditation became the one place where the noise stopped arguing with me. In the quiet, I discovered that I had never truly been alone. Whether you call them ancestors, spirit guides, angels, intuition, or simply the wisdom that lives within, stillness has a remarkable way of introducing us to the voices that have always been trying to lead us home. Eventually, I realized they weren’t leading me somewhere outside of myself. They were leading me back to a place that had always existed within me.

There is a place inside each of us untouched by betrayal.

Untouched by criticism.

Untouched by abandonment.

Untouched by shame.

A playground.

A garden.

A sanctuary.

Whatever name you give it…

it’s still there.

Waiting.

The echo of abandonment may always exist. Certain songs, places, anniversaries, people. They may still remind you of where you’ve been. But an echo is not the original voice. It is only a reminder that something once called your name.

Today…

I answer to something different.

Joy.

Peace.

Purpose.

Authenticity.

And myself.
